We've all been anxious to see the new interface and, though the one we saw today may still be tweaked here and there, it gives us a good indication of where the team is headed. From a standpoint of hardware, you may also want to invest in a nice 5.1 setup to take advantage of the surround sound within the game. The real kicker is the huge 3GB install size, so you might want to go ahead and back up your tasteful erotic art collection on tape.

You'll need at least a 1GHz processor, a modest 128MB of RAM and a GeForce 3 or equivalent card.

Currently the team is projecting specs on par with the game's size. The details on all the faces are much clearer now and, since there are even more texture variations for NPCs, you won't be seeing so many long-lost twins in this version. The small veins and wrinkles that characterize dark Jedi are very intricate, particularly around the eyes. The best example of the new textures are the faces of the dark Jedi. Armor textures are much sharper as well with much more variation in terms of highlighting and color. The sandy ground is dry and cracked and kicks up little dust puffs as you run around. YES NO You can see tons of details all around you. Seeing the nice 1024 textures on the Ebon Hawk on the beach of the Unknown World (or is it Unnamed World?), you get a real sense of how much prettier this game can be on the PC.

Now that their finishing up the PC version, the team is able to go back and reuse the larger size textures. For the Xbox version, they had to scale back the textures a bit to preserve space on the disc and meet the hardware capabilities of the Xbox. During the design process the team created large texture files for the game at 5 sizes. In any case, it seems to run more smoothly than its Xbox cousin. The framerate seems to have smoothed out a bit since we last saw this game.

The game supports resolutions up to 1600x1200 (provided your hardware does as well), so you can get even more definition if you like. Running at a crisp 1024x768 resolution, the game looks much cleaner than it does on the Xbox. What we didn't expect was that the game would actually offer some new content in the form of new items and an entirely new area. As we suspected, the PC version has better graphics and a slightly different interface. Since so much of the game is the same across both platforms, we're only going to be talking about the differences between the two versions.
